Northerners think that all plantations
look like something out of Gone With
The Wind.  They don't look anything
like that, turns out.  Some are still
very nice, though.  This is Magnolia
Plantation.
Magnolia Plantation made rice, so a
lot of it is swamp.  The rest is woods,
but they made a nice tour out of it.
Again, not what I expected from a
plantation, but it still makes for a
good photo.
Center, then slightly to the left.

He's checking you out, man.
The stuff hanging from the trees is
called Spanish Moss.  Which is ironic
since it is neither Spanish nor moss.

It is not a parasite - it does not host
off of the trees, but it lives off the sun
and moisture in the air.  It can choke
and kill a tree due to overgrowth,
however.
There's a bunch of wildlife running wild
and free, including alligators and
poisonous snakes.

Luckily we had a peacock to protect us.
Myrtle Beach is basically Wildwood, NJ
without the annoyance of New Jersey
residents (those who frequent the
Jersey Shore know exactly what I
mean), so we did not take a lot of
pictures.

However, the view from our hotel room
was stunning - right on the beachfront,
up on the 5th floor, and with a balcony.

I could have stayed there all week on
the balcony, just watching the ocean
and people walking around.
The miracle is not that I got in,
but how I managed to get back out.
And for those of you familiar with our vacations, the boys had a lovely time as well.
