April 2003 (when our offer was accepted)
June 2004 Took out the front bushes and put in a retaining wall, also got the lawn looking at least partially presentable.
June 2005 This used to be an old sidewalk - the same one that was installed with the house in 1965. I yanked it out, dug down a few inches, threw it back in and used it as a base. I used a car jack to hoist it out if the ground and smacked it with a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. I thought it was a brilliant idea...until two months later when I wound up in physical therapy from a delayed pulled muscle that made me yearn for death. I really wish I was kidding about that.
August 2006 With no knowledge of...fenceworking? I dunno what you call it...but whatever it is, I don't have it. Anyway, I took down the old rusty chain link and put up a white PVC fence. I also removed the 15 foot high (not kidding) bushes on the left side and replaced them with normal ones.
2006 continued - on the right, I lined the driveway with Belgian Blocks.
April 2007 Painted the shutters red and the banister white (and a new white mailbox) to match the fence. Really, at this point I had just run out of stuff to do. Time to call in the professionals.

October 2007 The new siding took about 3 weeks because only one guy was working on it. At one point I joked that if this kept up we would have to invite him to Thanksgiving. The shutters are actually blue, and I'm not sure what's up with the "waviness" in this picture. I think it's just the camera.

October 2007 A shot of the new and improved garden. We've got tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and strawberries, all from this little space.
